The GMC (THUMBAY) Hospital Ajman, the 1st JCI Accredited Hospital in Ajman, has successfully performed an angioplasty procedure. The procedure was the first-ever interventional procedure to be performed at its state-of-the-art first Cath Lab Center in Ajman.

The Angiogram & angioplasty was carried out for a 54 year-old male. The patient suffered from severe ongoing chest pain for which immediate intervention was planned. He had a right and left coronary angiography with stents implantation (using drug eluting stents) carried out at GMC Hospital. The chest pain resolved completely after the angioplasty and the patient was discharged home after 24 hours from the intervention, feeling healthy.

The angioplasty procedure was carried out by the expert cardiac team at GMC Hospital headed by Dr. Mahmoud Farouk.

Commenting on the breakthrough procedure, Dr. Mahmoud Farouk said, “We are very proud to have successfully performed this in Ajman. A timely intervention is essential in preventing major complications or fatalities.”

Coronary angioplasty is a therapeutic procedure used in the treatment of narrowed coronary arteries of the heart which is the most common cause for heart attacks. This narrowing occurs due to the buildup of cholesterol-laden plaques that form along the arterial walls. Angioplasty has to be conducted in a Cath Lab by an interventional cardiologist.

Speaking on the importance of the conference, Prof. Arun Shirwaikar – Dean of GMU’s College of Pharmacy said that its aim was to emphasize the role of community pharmacists in ensuring patient safety and proper handling of medicines and to train and educate them. “Community pharmacists have a very important role as members of the healthcare team. Considering that they are the first line of contact for patients in matters related to medicines, they have a crucial role to play in preventing the misuse of medicine which might result in toxicity, as well as scenarios like antibiotics overuse which hamper effectiveness.”

The conference noted the increasing need to educate and orient community pharmacists beyond the traditional role of dispensing, to also properly store and handle medicines. Pharmacists should be well-equipped to take up this greater role.

The group has issued notices on its career portal as well as in leading newspapers, warning unsuspecting jobseekers to be wary of online fraudsters offering jobs on its behalf.

“Thumbay Hospital and other Thumbay Group companies follow a comprehensive recruitment process which includes personal interview, and we do not make employment offers solely on the basis of a candidate’s CV. Moreover, recruitment to any post under the group or group companies is done through our own HR department and is not outsourced to any external agencies or individuals,” clarifies the notice.

The notice also alerts job seekers that Thumbay Group and its group companies do not solicit any payment from candidates at any stage of recruitment process. It adds that all vacancies in Thumbay Group are listed in the company’s career webpage, in addition to being advertised in leading daily newspapers and job portals.

Mr. Akbar further said that TPTRH is in line with the ‘National Strategy For Empowering People with Disabilities’ launched last year by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. “The strategy announced by His Highness aims at creating an inclusive society for those with special needs and their families. The six-part policy involves health and rehabilitation, education, employment, mobility, social protection and family empowerment, and public life and sports, which are the focus areas of TPTRH,” he explained.

Thumbay Medicity, in Al Jurf, Ajman also houses the region’s leading private medical university – the Gulf Medical University as well as the first private dental hospital in the country and the largest academic dental hospital in the Middle East region’s private sector, Thumbay Dental Hospital. A 500-bed academic hospital – the largest private academic hospital in the region – is at the final stages of completion at Thumbay Medicity, slated to open shortly. Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division expanded its networks of state-of-the-art family clinics and pharmacies by opening a new Thumbay Clinic and Thumbay Pharmacy in Abu Shagara, Sharjah, on 19^th July 2018.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group was the chief guest of the opening function. Mr. Mohammed Meeran, Chairman of Electric Way, Dubai was the guest of honor. Also present were Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, and other members of Thumbay Group Board.

After having taken the tour of the facilities Mr. Mohammed Meeran applauded the achievements & growth of Thumbay group and its contribution to the community in education and healthcare.

The group plans to open at least four more clinics and several more pharmacies, as part of the expansion plans this year. Clinics and pharmacies are at various stages of development in locations including Deira Waterfront, Dragon Mart and Bur Dubai in Dubai and Rahmaniya Mall in Sharjah.  This is in addition to the new project coming up in Thumbay Medicity, Al Jurf, Ajman: the Thumbay University Hospital Complex which includes the 500-bed Thumbay Hospital – the biggest private academic hospital in the region.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee of Dubai-based international conglomerate Thumbay Group has launched the ‘Joy of Giving’ initiative to support needy children and bring happiness to their lives. The month-long campaign launched under Thumbay Foundation, the charitable arm that supports the CSR activities of Thumbay Group, formally started on 21^st July 2018 encourages people to donate books, toys, clothes, school stationaries and painting materials for needy children and orphans.

As part of the campaign, 6 wooden boxes have been placed at various Thumbay Group establishments including Thumbay Medicity – Ajman, Thumbay Hospitals at Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Fujairah and Thumbay Hospital Day Care – Sharjah, where donations can be dropped off for collection. To ensure the safety of the recipient children, various specifications have been stipulated for donations, including adherence to hospital infection compliance standards and guidelines requiring that stationaries and painting materials must strictly be non-toxic.

Explaining the reason for launching the initiative, Mr. Akram Moideen Thumbay – Director Operations of the Construction & Renovation Division, Director of Thumbay Technologies and Member of Thumbay Group Board – who is the Chairman of Thumbay Group’s CSR Committee said, “Through initiatives like these benefiting the needy children and orphans, we hope to inspire them to dream of a better life for themselves. We are doing our bit to help them have as much of a happy childhood as possible, to assist them in their smooth transition to responsible citizens of tomorrow.”

The CSR Committee oversees the CSR activities and programs of Thumbay Group. It discusses and decides on practices relating to the company’s corporate social responsibility on a global basis, including matters related to education, health and safety, environment and community welfare. The committee has successfully carried out several CSR programs at various parts of the country, promoting causes and activities benefiting low-income groups, women, children, various professional groups etc. Free medical and health camps for the public led by Thumbay hospitals and clinics are a regular activity conducted under the committee’s guidance and supervision, benefiting thousands of people, especially blue-collar workers.
